During the recent League of Women Voters candidate forum, I was asked a question I didn't have an answer to: “Should the public school system’s vaccine mandates be updated to match the new federal vaccine guidelines?” Now? Now, I have an answer.

That is why affordability has become one of the issues I hear about most often. It’s also why I believe one of the most important questions we can ask in government is incredibly simple: What can we do to leave more money in the pockets of the people who earned it?

If you want a large house and a large yard, wonderful. If you want an apartment or condo, those options should exist too. And if you want a beautiful, permanently constructed home on a smaller lot in a walkable neighborhood where you actually know the people living around you... why shouldn't that choice exist? If a company chooses the less expensive option because it saves money while shifting long-term costs and environmental risks onto the community, that's not innovation. That's cutting corners.

When I explained that repeated vehicle scans can show when someone regularly leaves for work, attends church, or is away on vacation, many people stopped me and said... "Wait... really?"

Too often, voters are asked to trust polished campaign ads, glossy mailers, and carefully worded promises without being able to easily see who is standing behind a candidate. I believe the people who support a campaign matter. For every donation of $5 or more to Dowling for Assembly, I will write the donor’s first name and last initial directly on my white jacket. Every Friday night, I will go through the donor list, add the names, and share an update.

I’m not interested in playing team politics. I’m interested in outcomes. I believe voters deserve representation that is willing to listen, ask honest questions, and do the work… Even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s not popular, even when it doesn’t fit into a neat partisan box.
